Employment History

 

February 2014 – Present Jagex Games Ltd

Senior lighting artist Block’n’Load and Transformers Universe

On Block’n’Load I was responsible for liaising with the head of marketing and chief creative officer to design images to fulfil marketing briefs. My task was to suggest ideas, create camera compositions, pose characters, set dress, light, render and post process high resolution marketing assets for Steam, Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms. I was also instrumental in creating several pieces of key art to support the release of the game. In addition I also expanded my marketing role to include creating character skins to populate the in-game store.

 

On Transformers Universe I was responsible for creating camera compositions, set dressing, lighting, rendering and colour grading an animated motion-comic and high resolution marketing assets for Transformers Universe. I also undertook on the role of mentoring and guiding team members to help them improve the lighting and cinematography aspects of their work and provided advice on lighting schemes, composition and colour grading.

 

April 2011 – January 2014:  Headstrong Games Ltd

Senior environment artist and 3d generalist

Responsible for designing, modelling, texturing, lighting and level layout of real-time environmental assets for the PS3 version of House of the Dead: Overkill for Sega and Art Academy: Sketchpad for Nintendo on the WiiU. I was also heavily involved in the look development for several pitch videos for the company. For one of the pitch videos I was solely in charge of creating the 3d visuals, set dressing, camera composition, animation, sound design and editing.

 

July 2010 – March 2011:  Jellyfish Pictures Ltd     

Senior lighting and rendering TD

Responsible for lighting, rendering and compositing shots for two big-budget high-profile BBC TV productions: Planet Dinosaur and Inside the Human Body.

Both shows were nominated for several awards including a Bafta and Emmy. Inside the Human Body won a VES (Visual Effects Society) award and New York Festivals gold medal in 2012.

 

 

July 2006 – May 2010:  Kuju Entertainment/Headstrong Games Ltd               

FMV Co-director and senior games artist

Initially recruited to work on lighting and rendering the cinematic sequences in Battalion Wars 2, I quickly assumed extra responsibilities in the role of look-development artist and compositor when it became necessary to do so.

 

Once the project was completed I was invited to stay on as a senior environment artist for several other games (listed below) and also worked on lighting, rendering and editing game pitch videos.

In 2010, in addition to being the only lighting artist on the team, I also assumed a lot of creative responsibility for look-development, camera angles, lenses and staging in an ambitious entirely in-engine teaser trailer for the game Crysis 2. The trailer was shown on many online media platforms and physically in Times Square in New York.

November 2005 – June 2006:  Nexus Productions

Freelance lighting and rendering TD

Responsible for modelling, texturing, lighting and rendering for two large budget commercials.

One was a Grand Theft Auto inspired Coca-Cola commercial which was shown on TV, cinema and during the coveted and expensive ad break slot of the 2007 American Super Bowl. The other commercial was a stylised fully CG large budget Renault car commercial starring racing driver Fernando Alonso.

 

September 2005 – October 2005:  Flaming CGI

Freelance lighting and rendering TD

Responsible for creating lighting setups, modelling, set dressing and render-wrangling for an architectural previsualisation company working on the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai.

 

August 2005 – September 2005:  Freelance Music Video Director

Live action music video director, 3d artist and compositor

I wrote, storyboarded, produced, directed, edited and post produced a music video for a band called Miss T & the Japanese Tourists. The video received airplay on music video channels in Europe.

 

December 2003 - July 2005:  Gerry Anderson Productions, Pinewood Studios               

Senior lighting and rendering TD

I was responsible for lighting, rendering, shading, modelling, texturing props and characters for a large budget 26 episode fully CGI remake of Captain Scarlet, for original series creator Gerry Anderson.

 

November 2003 - December 2003:  New Road Films

Freelance 3d artist and compositor

I created 3d effects and did compositing work on a music video for the band Faces of Sarah for director Andrew Clark of New Road Films.

 

September 2000 - October 2003:  Computer Artworks Ltd

Senior environment Artist

Responsible for creating in-game lighting, modelling environments, props and creating texture maps from concept art or from game design documents.

Responsible for lighting, rendering, compositing, texture painting and modelling of 3d environments for various in-game cinematic sequences, music videos and commercials. This role also required a lot of interaction with external advertising clients and directors.

 

September 1999: Realise Studio

Freelance Matte Painting Artist

I worked as an Environment Matte Painting Artist on the music video, Special by rock band Garbage, which won “Best special effects “category at the MTV video music awards 1999.

 

 

September 1996 to May 1997:  Creative Brains Ltd

3d Artist

Responsible for designing storyboarding, lighting and animating 3d characters for an in-game cinematic sequence for an independent game called Rage.

 

December 1995 to September 1996:  The Dome Ltd

Junior games artist

Responsible for building 3d props, real-time environments and sprites and icons for the PS1 release of Davis Cup Tennis for Telstar Electronic Studios
